Neneng, Ade win President, Tien Cups
JAKARTA (JP): Ade Purwaji from Jakarta and Neneng K from Bandung won the 29th President and Tien Soeharto Cups respectively at the Matoa Nasional golf course in Ciganjur, South Jakarta, Thursday.
Ade, who competed under the banner of the Sawangan golf club, scored a net total of 134 (68-66) or 10-under-par, and won after a sudden-death playoff against K. Agung Indrawan, Abdul Rochim and Sarmili, in the playoff.
It began on the par-four 1st, then went to the par-three 8th and finished on the par-five 9th.
The four golfers had all ended on the same score of 10-under- par 134.
Agung, who competed under the banner of Tritih Cilacap golf club and whose handicap was eight, finished second and Abdul Rohim from the Sawangan golf club finished third.
Sarmili, who is a member of the national training program, had to be content with fourth although he took command of the early stages of the competition on Wednesday.
"I'm very happy with my highest achievement because this is the first time I've compete in a tournament," said Ade, who learned to play golf without a coach.
"My house is located near the Sawangan golf course. I think I have a good chance to develop in the sport," said Ade, who lost his father when he was a child.
Sawangan public course is renown for its open system for people living close to the course, either to earn their living or for children to learn golf.
Neneng, the winner of the 1996 National Games, won with a net score of 142 (74-68), or two-under-par.
"I'm really happy with the result and I'll try to retain the trophy next year," said the employee of a life insurance company in Bandung.
Antara reported that 130 male golfers, with a maximum handicap 10, and 29 female golfers, with a maximum handicap of 14, competed in the annual tournament. (yan)
