Beirut (ANTARA) - Direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel must separate issues surrounding Iran from the conflict occurring in Lebanon, stated Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji on Monday. He made the statement during a telephone conversation with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. “Minister Rajji expressed thanks to Berlin for its humanitarian and political support, and noted that Lebanon is striving to achieve a ceasefire through direct negotiations with Israel,” the Lebanese ministry said in a statement. “He emphasised that building this process actually strengthens the separation of Lebanese affairs from Iranian issues,” the ministry added. Rajji also affirmed that only Lebanon has the right to negotiate on behalf of the state, which is a clear signal of efforts to restore the principle of national sovereignty in Lebanese diplomacy. Wadephul also conveyed full support for the Lebanese government’s efforts to strengthen sovereignty and achieve stability. He reiterated that Germany is working to realise a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, and informed Rajji about a €45 million (approximately Rp904.1 billion) humanitarian aid package for the people of Lebanon.
