Negligence blamed for Jambi crashes
JAMBI: Police in Jambi said on Wednesday that most traffic accidents occurring in the province between January and October, were caused by the negligence of drivers.
Commissioner Adjar Triadi, a local police chief overseeing traffic affairs, said his office recorded a total of 146 accidents in the province, 102 of which were caused by driver negligence.
At least 138 people were killed and eight others seriously injured in the accidents, he said.
Adjar said other causes included the poor condition of streets and vehicles.
In anticipation of next month's annual exodus of people traveling to their home towns to celebrate the post-Ramadhan festivities of Idul Fitri and, later, Christmas, Adjar urged drivers to be more alert in an effort to prevent accidents. --Antara
