The condition of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) Animal Slaughterhouse (RPH) owned by the West Lombok Regency Government is concerning. Located in Jembatan Kembar Village, Lembar Subdistrict, the RPH appears neglected.

Observations on Tuesday (31/3/2026) showed that the floor where animals are slaughtered has cracks. The building’s paint colour has faded, and most of it is covered in moss.

The RPH still uses traditional facilities that appear outdated and unhygienic. Leftover animal skins from slaughtering are hung haphazardly, emitting an unpleasant odour.

The RPH, situated by the roadside leading to Lembar Port, looks unkempt. Weeds are allowed to grow around the building.

Mawarni, the manager, revealed that for nearly two decades, the building has not been touched by any repairs from the West Lombok Regency Government.

She highlighted that the RPH is under the responsibility of the West Lombok Regency Government, yet it only expects the managers to clean and resolve the issues.

“We are not unwilling to clean it. But the building’s condition is indeed inadequate. What surprises us is that this is a state-owned RPH, belonging to the government and the state. But when we propose repairs, they are never heeded or addressed,” she said when met at the location on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

Mawarni even admitted to being tired of hearing complaints from business actors and the surrounding community about the RPH’s condition.

“In West Lombok, we are always the worst. There are no facilities, the smell is pungent,” added the woman.

Meanwhile, Jumrah, the Head of the UPT RPH West Lombok, explained that limited budget is one of the reasons for the lack of repairs to the UPT RPH Lembar.

“Indeed, the condition is like that; it has been a long time without any repairs. We have proposed it several times, but up to now, no budget has been allocated,” he revealed.

According to him, various basic facilities at the RPH Lembar are still far from standards. Among them are cutting tools, waste disposal areas, clean water, and even facilities like refrigeration rooms and sanitation, which are not yet available.

“The cutting equipment is insufficient, water is limited, waste disposal is not organised. These are the obstacles for us to meet standards,” he explained.

Jumrah also revealed that the RPH Lembar has not yet met the requirements to enter the Veterinary Control Number (NKV) category, which is an indicator of meat eligibility and hygiene.

“If the standards are not met, of course, we cannot fully guarantee the hygiene,” he added.

Despite the concerning condition, Jumrah said that animal slaughtering activities continue daily. With a comparison of one to three animals slaughtered on ordinary days, while during certain moments like holidays, it increases to dozens.

Jumrah also said that levies are still collected from the butchers, even though the facilities and services are far from adequate.

Jumrah hopes that the West Lombok Regency Government will soon give serious attention to the UPT RPH Lembar to boost Original Local Revenue (PAD) and ensure the hygiene of meat received by the public.

“We hope for construction or at least repairs. So that this place is decent, clean, and can meet standards,” he emphasised.
