Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Wikimedia Foundation has finally registered itself as an Electronic System Operator (PSE). Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi), Alexander Sabar, stated that the registration has been completed and the website has been normalised.

“The Wikimedia Foundation Inc has registered, so it has been normalised,” said Alexander on Thursday (30/4/2026).

“[The registration] is done, today already… today,” he added.

A spokesperson for the Wikimedia Foundation confirmed that it has completed the PSE registration in Indonesia. This was done with a written assurance that the registration is administrative in nature and will not be used to disclose personal data or for content removal requests that pose risks to the community in Indonesia.

“With that written assurance, the Wikimedia Foundation has completed the registration of the Wikipedia app and will soon register the Wikipedia website,” said the Wikimedia Foundation spokesperson in an official statement.

Komdigi also assured that access to auth.wikimedia.org will be restored. Thus, the use of the platform can continue.

“With this step, Komdigi guarantees the restoration of access to the auth.wikimedia.org domain as soon as possible, so Wikimedia editors can continue their contributions,” the spokesperson added.

Wikimedia also announced the completion of the registration on its official X account. The company explained that it had engaged in discussions and expressed concerns regarding user privacy, editorial freedom, and the volunteer-driven governance model of the Wikimedia projects.

Komdigi also committed that it cannot be used as a legal basis for content moderation or data disclosure that could undermine the Wikimedia model. The platform also ensured that there are no additional impacts for legal reviews at the Wikimedia Foundation.

“We will continue to evaluate the validity of content removal orders or data disclosure requests on a case-by-case basis in accordance with established legal procedures and applicable policies, and respond in accordance with international human rights norms,” the account stated.
