Nearly 60 Million Indonesians Participate in Free Health Screening, Ministry Highlights Adult Physical Inactivity

The Ministry of Health has recorded that 59,561,278 residents have been served through the Free Health Screening (CKG) programme as of early July 2026, approaching half of the government’s target of 130 million people for the year. Adults constitute the largest segment of participants, with the screening revealing a critical lack of physical activity as a dominant risk factor across generations. The mass screening also uncovered alarming trends among younger demographics, including 663,000 schoolchildren with elevated blood pressure and millions suffering from dental caries.

Despite the programme being on track, the Ministry acknowledged persistent structural challenges hindering its implementation. These include low public literacy regarding the importance of health screening, uneven commitment from regional governments, and the limited capacity of community health centres (Puskesmas) to reach residents outside their facilities. Shortages in medical equipment and human resources were also cited as significant obstacles.

To accelerate coverage, the Ministry is adopting an outreach strategy by expanding service points beyond Puskesmas to include private primary care facilities, military and police institutions, and universities. The Ministry is also strengthening the school-based screening component to instil health awareness from an early age, while addressing capacity gaps through webinars and training via the Plataran Sehat platform.
