PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that during the Eid transport peak period from 11 to 20 March 2026, KAI served 1,695,218 customers on long-distance trains and 302,561 on local trains in Java and Sumatra. Overall, the total number of KAI customers served reached 1,997,779. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba explained that as of 21 March 2026 at 10:00 WIB, tickets sold amounted to 3,799,365 or 84.5 per cent of the total 4,498,696 seats provided for long-distance and local train services from 11 March to 1 April 2026. She stated that this increase in sales demonstrates the strengthening public trust in trains as a choice for Eid travel. “The trend of homecoming travel by train has continued to rise since mid-March. This is evident from the gradual increase in ticket sales, especially for long-distance train services which are the primary choice for inter-city travel,” Anne said in an official statement on Saturday (21/3/2026). She explained that for long-distance train services, ticket sales reached 3,292,121 tickets or 92.2 per cent of the total 3,571,760 seats provided. This means 279,639 seats are still available for booking by the public for the return flow. Meanwhile, for local train services managed by KAI, ticket sales were recorded at 438,203 tickets or 47.3 per cent of the total 926,936 available seats. Thus, 488,733 seats remain available for customers. Local train ticket sales are generally expected to increase closer to departure dates as most services can only be booked from H-7. In line with this increase, the daily volume of passengers and occupancy rate for long-distance trains from 11–20 March 2026 showed a continuously rising trend, as follows: Entering 21 March 2026, Anne noted that passenger movement remains high. As of the morning, at least 174,198 long-distance train passengers were scheduled to travel with a temporary occupancy rate of 108.1 per cent for that day alone. This number still has potential to grow as ticket sales continue.
