Nearly 1 Million Train Tickets Sold During Long Weekend Holiday
Amid the long weekend holiday for Iduladha 1447 Hijriyah coinciding with Pancasila Day, public mobility across regions has surged. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (KAI) reported ticket sales for departures between 26 May and 1 June 2026 reached 911,176 by Wednesday, 27 May.
Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated in a written statement on Thursday, 28 May, that the figure could still rise as sales continue.
Anne noted strong public enthusiasm since the first day of the long weekend. On Tuesday, 26 May, KAI served 214,342 passengers, the highest daily volume during the holiday period.
“This long weekend demonstrates railways are increasingly the public’s preferred choice for intercity travel,” Anne said.
KAI observed even distribution of passenger travel patterns towards popular cities in Java and Sumatra, including Yogyakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Solo, and Surabaya, which offer tourist attractions, culinary experiences, cultural heritage, and integrated urban mobility access.
“The high passenger mobility is also reflected in the most favoured travel routes during this holiday period,” Anne added.
Anne highlighted changing travel preferences, with passengers prioritising comfort, punctuality, and scenic views between cities.
“KAI ensures all journeys during the long weekend are safe, comfortable, and smooth. The public is urged to plan ahead, arrive early at stations, and double-check departure schedules for a stress-free trip,” she said.
