Nearly 1 Million Discounted Train Tickets Sold Out for School Holidays
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI has recorded sustained high customer enthusiasm for rail travel, including through the 30 per cent transport discount programme during the 2026 school holiday period. Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, stated that 987,851 discounted transport tickets had been booked by customers for the departure period from 20 June to 5 July 2026. “This figure is equivalent to 84.10 per cent of the total quota of 1,174,624 seats. With this achievement, there are still 186,773 seats available that the public can utilise to plan school holiday trips with their families,” Anne said in a written statement in Jakarta on Saturday (27/6/2026).
Anne conveyed that the school holidays provide an opportunity for families to enjoy time together, visit their hometowns, and introduce children to the experience of travelling by train. According to her, the high number of discounted ticket bookings shows that trains remain the public’s choice due to scheduled, comfortable journeys that reach many cities. “This Saturday, many families are already on their journeys, while other customers are starting to prepare for departures for the weekend and next week,” Anne said.
KAI, Anne continued, is inviting the public to utilise the remaining discounted seats by planning their journeys early, selecting suitable dates, and ensuring all travel data is correct before departure. Anne stated that customer enthusiasm is evident from the distribution of discounted ticket volumes based on departure dates. On 26 June 2026, the discounted ticket volume was recorded at 85,397 customers. Entering Saturday, 27 June 2026, the volume reached 82,809 customers, followed by Sunday, 28 June 2026, with 76,685 customers. “Previously, the opening weekend of the school holidays was also recorded as high, namely 77,505 customers on 20 June and 82,061 customers on 21 June 2026,” Anne added.
Outside the discount programme, Anne said, customer mobility during the school holiday period also shows broad movement. Based on monitoring of customer volume for the period 20 June to 5 July 2026, with an update on 26 June at 10.00 WIB, the total number of customers recorded reached 2,278,245. “This figure consists of 924,105 discounted transport customers and 1,354,140 regular customers,” Anne continued.
Anne stated that this data shows school holiday travel is spread across many dates. The highest total number of customers was recorded on Sunday, 21 June 2026, with 222,965 customers. Movement was also seen to be strong on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, with 198,548 customers, Wednesday, 1 July 2026, with 198,542 customers, Saturday, 20 June 2026, with 197,979 customers, and Monday, 22 June 2026, with 191,638 customers.
In the transport discount programme, Anne continued, Pasar Senen Station was the departure station with the highest volume, namely 117,048 customers. This was followed by Yogyakarta Station with 69,721 customers, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng Station with 46,881 customers, Semarang Poncol Station with 43,667 customers, and Lempuyangan Station with 39,134 customers. “From the destination side, Pasar Senen Station was also recorded as the highest with 108,887 customers, followed by Yogyakarta Station with 73,007 customers, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng Station with 45,837 customers, Semarang Poncol Station with 42,317 customers, and Solo Balapan Station with 39,826 customers,” Anne revealed.
Anne conveyed that a number of routes were also the main choices for customers during the discount period. The Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen route was recorded at 16,144 customers, Pasar Senen–Lempuyangan at 15,945 customers, Pasar Senen–Yogyakarta at 13,711 customers, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng–Solo Balapan at 11,690 customers, and Surabaya Gubeng–Yogyakarta at 11,517 customers. This pattern shows that the school holidays are driving family travel, tourism, and intercity visits across various regions.
In terms of train services, the highest volume for the transport discount programme was recorded on the Joglosemar Kerto train with 50,276 customers. This was followed by the Ambarawa Ekspres with 44,845 customers, Pangrango with 39,438 customers, Sawunggalih with 34,864 customers, and Jayakarta with 31,159 customers. This distribution shows that customer interest is not concentrated on a single line but is spread across various intercity and agglomeration journeys. “KAI continues to urge customers to prepare for their journeys in an orderly manner from home,” Anne said.
