NCW demands governor delay wholesale center

JAKARTA: The Nusantara Corruption Watch (NCW) demanded Governor Sutiyoso delay the start of the construction of the Jakarta Wholesale Center at the site of the former Melati dam in Kebon Kacang, Central Jakarta.

NCW coordinator GB Harahap said on Friday that the feasibility study on the project had yet to be completed. He feared bigger problems would occur in the future because of the construction.

"Development of the center has yet to obtain an Environmental Impact Analysis certificate. We know that the dam also serves as a flood controller. The developer also does not have a waste management facility," he said. -- Antara
