Nazhir Association and FORNAS MAZAWA Strengthen Synergy to Boost Waqf Literacy

Representatives of the Indonesian Nazhir Association (ANI) held a meeting with the board of the National Forum of Zakat and Waqf Management Students (FORNAS MAZAWA). The meeting served as a follow-up to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed by both organisations. ANI was represented by President Imam Nur Azis and Ahmad Faisal, a member of the Innovation and Digitalisation Division. FORNAS MAZAWA was represented by its Chairman, Bagus, along with Hadinata and Ayis as board members. The meeting focused on discussing a draft cooperation agreement that will form the basis for implementing various collaborative programmes between ANI and FORNAS MAZAWA. In addition to strengthening institutional ties, FORNAS MAZAWA presented several cooperation opportunities that could be developed to support the advancement of the waqf sector in Indonesia. The visit was also part of FORNAS MAZAWA’s preparations ahead of its National Work Meeting (Rakernas), planned for September 2026 in Solo. The ANI board welcomed the visit positively and appreciated the students’ enthusiasm in supporting national waqf development. ANI President Imam Nur Azis emphasised that Indonesia’s waqf potential is enormous, yet its utilisation remains suboptimal. “The role of students is crucial in improving public literacy and awareness regarding waqf,” said Imam. With better understanding, it is hoped that more waqf assets can be managed and empowered for the benefit of the community. He added that collaboration with ANI as a professional organisation could open opportunities for students to enhance their competence, expand their networks, and develop careers in zakat and waqf management. Ahmad Faisal outlined several ANI programmes focused on improving waqf literacy. According to him, the Waqf Literacy Index previously released by the Indonesian Waqf Board (BWI) shows that public understanding of waqf remains relatively low. This condition affects the suboptimal management and development of waqf assets in various regions. The meeting resulted in a mutual understanding to build strategic cooperation in strengthening waqf literacy through various integrated and sustainable programmes. The collaboration between ANI and FORNAS MAZAWA is expected to make a tangible contribution to improving public understanding of waqf and to drive the realisation of public welfare through more productive waqf management.
