Navy seeks missing boat

JAKARTA: The navy is searching for a boat reported missing
with 12 people on board near Mudu Island in the Malacca Straits
recently.

Navy spokesman Col. Totok M.K. Laksito said yesterday that the
vessel went missing during bad weather.

The operation was part of the navy's routine patrol, headed by
Rear Adm. Dalam Sinuraya of the Naval Fleet for the Western
Region.

Totok said the boat was on its way from Singapore to Tanjung
Batu Kundur, Sumatra when it was reported missing.

A day after the incident, one body was found on Karimun Besar
Island and two others on Asm Island. It is yet to be determined
if they were among the missing boat's passengers. (prs)
