Navy secures Rp10.25 trillion in mining resources in 2026
The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has recorded that 514.1 tonnes of mining natural resources worth Rp10.25 trillion were successfully secured through various operations throughout 2026.
Commander of the Indonesian Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada RI), Vice Admiral TNI Denih Hendrata, said in Tanjungpandan, Belitung, on Thursday that the value of mining resources secured had increased significantly compared with the previous year.
“From January until now, we have succeeded in securing state natural resources for all types of mining minerals, tin sand, coal and other mining minerals across Indonesia worth Rp10.25 trillion,” he said.
Denih explained that in 2025 the Navy recorded 343.14 tonnes of mining resources worth Rp102.94 billion successfully secured.
Meanwhile, in 2026, the amount increased to 514.1 tonnes with a value reaching Rp10.25 trillion.
One of these operations was the foiling of an alleged illegal tin sand smuggling attempt in the Bangka Belitung region in August 2026.
In a series of operations from 2–13 August 2026 at several locations in East Belitung and Belitung, the Navy secured around 75.7 tonnes of illegal tin sand with an estimated value of Rp76.04 billion.
Denih stressed that the figure of Rp76.04 billion is an estimate of the value of the goods secured, while the official amount of state losses will be calculated by the agency with the authority and competence to do so.
“State losses are not only seen from the physical value of the goods, but can also include state revenue, royalties, taxation, economic added value, as well as environmental and community economic impacts,” he said.
Throughout 2025, the Navy foiled the circulation of 4.81 tonnes of narcotics, which is estimated to have saved 20.7 million lives from the dangers of drug abuse.
Assuming rehabilitation costs of around Rp10 million per person, Denih said the potential rehabilitation costs that could be avoided reached Rp207 trillion.
Meanwhile, throughout 2026, the Navy recorded that it had foiled the circulation of 1.3 tonnes of narcotics, with an estimated 13.014 million lives saved and potential rehabilitation costs avoided of around Rp130.3 trillion.
Denih said these operational achievements were the result of synergy between the Navy and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Customs and Excise, the Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla), the Sea and Coast Guard Unit (KPLP), the Attorney General’s Office, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, regional governments, and other relevant ministries and institutions.
“Indonesia’s seas are not a free passage for smuggling the nation’s natural wealth. The Indonesian Navy will continue to be present to prevent, monitor, and take firm action against every violation of the law at sea in order to protect natural resources and national interests,” said Denih.
