Navy Member Assaulted in Matraman After Motorcycle Collision
A member of the Indonesian Navy, identified by the initials AW (39), was the victim of an assault in Matraman, East Jakarta. The incident was triggered by a motorcycle collision on the road.
Matraman Police Chief AKP Suripno stated that the assault occurred on Monday (17/8) at approximately 06:20 WIB. The incident began as the victim was on his way to work, riding a Yamaha Mio motorcycle with registration number B-5853-TSY.
While passing along Jalan Galur Sari IX in Utan Kayu Utara, Matraman, the victim was involved in a collision with a motorcyclist travelling from the opposite direction. The other rider, identified as RY, was riding a red Honda Vario 150 with registration number B-5959-TFG.
Initially, AW and RY engaged in a verbal altercation. RY, who was wearing a helmet, then headbutted AW in the face. The victim stopped his motorcycle, after which the suspect turned his motorcycle around and approached the victim. Another argument ensued, and the suspect struck the victim’s head with his helmet.
Shortly afterwards, another individual identified as FMN arrived and restrained the victim from behind. While the victim was in that position, the suspect allegedly kicked him. FMN also pushed and struck the victim. The assault stopped after several residents intervened to break up the fight.
The victim subsequently reported the incident to Matraman Police. Police have arrested RY, who is suspected of involvement in the assault on the Navy member. RY is currently being held at the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police for legal proceedings and has been charged under the assault provisions of Article 446 of the new Criminal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years and six months’ imprisonment or a fine of Rp 50 million.
