Navy Major Smuggles Meth on Military Plane, Packages Inscribed with 'Umrah Congratulations'

The trial of Navy Major Faisal Mulia has revealed details of a drug trafficking operation that utilised a military aircraft to transport methamphetamine. According to the indictment, the packages were inscribed with the message ‘selamat umrah’ (congratulations on your pilgrimage). The defendant was arrested after handing over a box containing 12 packages of meth to the co-pilot of a CN-235 military plane.

Faisal and his wife, NBP, travelled from Tanjungpinang to Batam and checked into a hotel on 22 November 2025. While there, the defendant contacted an individual named R to arrange the purchase of 8 grams of meth from a supplier known as K. After K delivered the drugs and received a payment of Rp 7.5 million, the defendant and his wife consumed some of the meth at the hotel before checking out.

Upon returning to Tanjungpinang, the defendant sought information regarding the departure schedule of a military CN-235 aircraft, registration P-8305, which was set to fly to Jakarta on 26 November 2025. His wife was then instructed to find buyers in Jakarta. The defendant subsequently repackaged the meth into 14 packages weighing a total of 9.83 grams while consuming some of the drug himself.

Twelve of the packages were placed inside a shoe box and handed to the co-pilot, Letda Laut Mazaki Moza, at approximately 5:30 AM WIB on 26 November 2025. The packages were addressed to three buyers in Madiun, Central Java. Shortly after, the Commander of Wing Udara 1 arrived at the CN-235 shelter and ordered the Intelligence Section Head, Major Edwar, to detain the defendant. An interrogation was conducted at the Wing Udara 1 Intelligence office.

The defendant reportedly earned a profit of Rp 8.3 million per sale and had been selling meth since his posting in Surabaya, including to other officers. He has been charged under multiple articles of Indonesia’s Narcotics Law and the Criminal Code.
