Navy impounds tanker, fishing boats

SURABAYA: The Navy impounded a tanker and 12 fishing boats for various violations during a one-month nationwide operation code- named Trisila.

The spokesman for the Eastern Indonesian Fleet Command, Lt. Col. Guntur Wahyudi, said on Tuesday the 292 deadweight ton tanker was impounded in the waters off Selaru island in the Arafuru Sea after transshipping fuel oil without the necessary documents.

"The tanker was later escorted to the Tual naval base," he said.

The 12 fishing boats were impounded in different areas, he said, adding that four of them had been seized in waters near East Timor. -- Antara
