Navy deploys ships for Idul Fitri

SURABAYA: Navy chief Adm. Bernard Kent Sondakh said on Friday that the Navy was ready to deploy a number of war ships to carry passengers during their Idul Fitri travels.

"Our ships are ready," he told reporters after a ceremony here.

The Navy is also ready to carry Indonesian migrant workers who are returning from neighboring Malaysia currently.

For transporting the migrant workers, the Navy has prepared five war ships. However, they have not yet been deployed pending a request from the manpower ministry.

One warship can carry some 2,000 passengers, he said. -- Antara
