Navy Chief of Staff Urges Seskoal Graduates to Shun Hedonism and Blind Ambition

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chief of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL), Admiral Muhammad Ali, has requested that officers graduating from the Naval Staff and Command College (Seskoal) do not become consumed by blind ambition for positions and illusory luxury.

According to Ali, such tendencies must be avoided as they can damage the mentality of officers and diminish the spirit of nationalism in their work.

“Avoid a hedonistic lifestyle. Never be tempted by the ambition for rank, popularity, or illusory luxury that can corrupt morals and violate the soldier’s oath,” said Ali during his closing remarks at the closing ceremony for the 65th regular education cohort and the graduation of the 63rd postgraduate cohort at Seskoal, Cipulir, South Jakarta, on Thursday.

Ali explained several principles that Seskoal graduates must implement while performing their duties within the Indonesian Navy. The first priority is to strengthen faith and devotion to God Almighty, using it as a moral and spiritual foundation in the execution of their duties.

Ali believes that once faith and belief in God are strengthened, soldiers will automatically increase their sense of nationalism and their dedication to the community and the state.

“In doing so, soldiers will firmly uphold and practice the noble values contained within the Sapta Marga, the Soldier’s Oath, and the Trisila of the Indonesian Navy,” he explained.

During their time at Seskoal, Ali noted that student officers have received extensive knowledge in the fields of defence strategy, defence management, operational strategy, and command systems.

With this diverse range of knowledge, Ali hopes that this year’s Seskoal students will continue to deepen their expertise, enabling them to become high-quality officers worthy of being future leaders.

“May this achievement serve as a solid initial foundation to move forward with confidence, wisdom, and self-awareness in subsequent assignments,” Ali explained.

It is noted that 142 student officers from the 63rd cohort have officially earned the degree of Master of Applied Maritime Operational Strategy, while the 65th cohort graduated 129 student officers. These graduates consist of middle-ranking officers from the Indonesian Navy, Army, Air Force, and the National Police. Additionally, several officers from friendly nations also graduated after completing their education at Seskoal.
