Navy aircraft crew survive incident at Hasanuddin Airport
Three crew members of an Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) Casa aircraft belonging to the Naval Aviation Centre (Puspenerbal) were declared safe after an incident during landing at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi.
“All three crew members are safe and uninjured,” said Head of Public Relations of the Naval Aviation Centre (Kadispen Puspenerbal), Navy Lieutenant Colonel Eko Hadi Setyawan, in a press release received in Makassar on Wednesday.
The Navy aircraft, an NC 212-200 Aviocar with tail number U-6215 from Air Squadron 600, Air Wing 2, Puspenerbal, was carrying three Navy personnel.
The aircraft experienced a technical problem during landing and veered off runway 03-12 North-South by 26.2 metres at the airport. The incident occurred on Tuesday (25/8) at around 11.21 WITA.
“The aircraft was landing on Runway 03 at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport. Moments after touching down and performing its landing roll, the right main tyre deflated or burst,” he said.
The tyre condition, according to Lieutenant Colonel Eko, caused the aircraft to veer to the right until it left the edge of the runway.
Responding to the emergency, the aircrew led by Navy Captain (P) Galih, together with Navy Captain (P) Nova and Navy Lieutenant (P) Rendy, immediately carried out standard safety procedures, including an emergency engine cut in accordance with SOP to minimise further risk.
The on-site team has secured the location, coordinated with Sultan Hasanuddin Air Force Base and the airport operator, and carried out tyre replacement before evacuating the aircraft to the apron at Hasanuddin Air Force Base. A technical inspection has been conducted.
A day earlier, a Sukhoi Su-30 MK2 fighter jet also experienced a similar incident, veering off runway 13 (13-21) while landing at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport on Monday, 24 August 2026.
“The aircraft and all crew are in safe condition. The aircraft was subsequently towed to the maintenance hangar for inspection and prepared for the next test,” said Head of Public Relations of the Indonesian Air Force (Kadispenau), Air Vice Marshal I Nyoman Suadnyana, in a press release received in Makassar on Monday.
He confirmed that the incident occurred during a test flight sequence for the Sukhoi Su-30 MK2 fighter jet after completing a heavy maintenance overhaul.
During the test flight sequence, he said, the aircraft was carrying out an inspection phase involving a simulated take-off on the runway. During the simulated take-off, when braking was applied, a technical problem occurred with the braking system, which did not function optimally, causing the aircraft to overshoot the end of the runway by 30 metres.
