The traditional banking system, which has long served as the backbone of financial services, is beginning to appear obsolete amidst the demands of the digital era, which requires maximum speed, security, and convenience.

Bank Indonesia recorded that in the first semester of 2026, digital payment transaction volumes reached 16.07 billion transactions, representing a year-on-year growth of 36.88%. This growth is driven by the increasingly widespread adoption of digital payment services.

Transaction volumes via mobile banking also increased by 31.39% annually, while transactions using the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) surged by 100.12% year-on-year (yoy).

The rapid adoption of digital transactions among the public has also prompted the banking industry to strive to provide a seamless, personalised, and relevant user experience that aligns with lifestyle needs. Consequently, the digital financial sector in Indonesia is entering a new chapter.

This transformation is driven by various strategic developments, ranging from the implementation of universal banking and the advancement of Open Finance to the utilisation of Artificial Intelligence (AI), as well as the importance of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and Digital Financial Infrastructure (DFI) as the foundation for future digital financial services.

Digital banks are no longer viewed merely as alternatives, but as strategic partners capable of expanding innovation, accelerating inclusion, and strengthening the connectivity of the financial ecosystem.

To discuss the future of digital banking further, CNBC Indonesia presents the Digital Banking Forum 2026 Vol 2, themed “Navigating the New Chapter of Digital Bank Evolution,” on Thursday, 24 September 2026. This forum serves as a discussion space bringing together regulators, industry players, and brands to discuss the future direction of digital banking in Indonesia.

The Digital Banking Forum 2026 Vol 2 is attended by the Chief Executive of Banking Supervision and Member of the Board of Commissioners of the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Dian Ediana Rae; the Director of IT and Operations of PT Bank KB Indonesia Tbk, Yungki Prabowo; and the Director of Information Technology and Operations of PT Bank Amar Indonesia Tbk, Kevin Kane Wardhana.

The Digital Banking Forum 2026 serves as a strategic platform to review the differentiation of banking super-apps, trends in digital service innovation, and the business strategies that will determine the competitive landscape of the financial industry moving forward.
