Navela Dwita's Dream: SMK Graduate Ready to Work in Germany

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Navela Dwita Purnama is one of 561 SMK graduates released by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to work in various countries, such as Japan, Malaysia, and Germany. The farewell for Navela was conducted by DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Deputy Governor Rano Karno during the ceremony commemorating Education Day in the Jakarta City Hall courtyard on Monday (4/5/2026). Behind the ceremony, there is great hope being carried. For her, SMK graduates are not only ready to work domestically but also capable of competing at a global level. There is no trace of doubt on the face of the SMK 2 Jakarta alumnus. Navela will start a new life through the Ausbildung programme in Germany, a dual vocational education system that combines school and direct work in the industrial world. Navela appeared enthusiastic in sharing her story, stating that in Germany, she will study in the field of Restaurantfachfrau, a job related to service in restaurants and the hospitality world. The system is not like regular school. Participants learn theory but also work directly. In addition to studying and working, participants also receive pocket money from their workplaces in Germany. According to Navela, this makes the learning process more realistic because it involves direct immersion in the working world. Navela’s journey was not instantaneous. The departure process also went through selection stages and cooperation between the school.
