Naval officers get promotion

SURABAYA: A total of 176 members of the eastern fleet (Armatim) of the Indonesian Navy have been promoted.

The base commander, Lt. Col. JW. Kainawa, led the ceremony here yesterday.

"Promotion is not a gift," he said. "Those who get promoted are those who have given their best to the Navy."

Kainawa conferred higher ranks on 130 petty officers and 46 lower ranking non-commissioned officers, Antara reported.

Kainawa told the officers to live up to the demands of their new ranks. "Higher rank means higher responsibility." (sur)
