Tanjungpinang (ANTARA) — The Indonesian Navy through the Naval Combat Task Force (Guspurla) Koarmada I conducted an integrated combat exercise in the waters of the Singapore Strait, demonstrating a sustained commitment to maintaining national maritime sovereignty and security.

The exercise involved elements under operational command, namely the warship KRI Surik-645 and maritime patrol aircraft P-8203, to strengthen the synergy of naval and air operations in this strategically significant border region.

“The exercise is focused on enhancing combat readiness and professionalism of military personnel in confronting the considerable maritime security dynamics in the Singapore Strait, an important international shipping lane,” said Commander of Guspurla Koarmada I First Admiral TNI Nurlan in his statement in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, Monday evening.

The Commander of Guspurla Koarmada I stated that collaboration between warship elements and maritime patrol aircraft is crucial for supporting the effectiveness of surveillance and rapid response to various potential threats at sea.

He explained that a series of exercises was conducted systematically from Sunday (1 March), beginning with communication checks to ensure smooth communication between elements, followed by air joining procedures (AJP) to practise the procedures for aircraft joining the task force convoy through proper communication and identification mechanisms.

Additionally, air defence exercise 320 was carried out with training in aircraft tracking as part of a layered defence scenario. All exercise activities proceeded safely and smoothly as planned.

Solid coordination between naval and air elements reflects the operational readiness of Koarmada I’s subordinate units in executing integrated operations.

“Evaluations are conducted at every stage to measure exercise effectiveness whilst identifying aspects requiring improvement in the future,” he said.

The Commander of Guspurla Koarmada I emphasised the importance of consistent training in operational areas whilst prioritising personnel and material safety.

This emphasis aligns with the directive of the Commander of Koarmada I for all subordinate elements to conduct exercises whilst in the same patrol sector and conduct evaluations after activities, ensuring combat readiness is maintained optimally.
