Naval academy will teach rights lessons
SURABAYA: Governor of the Indonesian Naval Academy Commodore Frits A.C. Mantiri said human rights issues would be included in the academy's curriculum.
"We hope that human rights and democratization courses will be included in the academy's curriculum," he said as quoted here on Thursday by Antara. "The issue gets a lot of international attention, so we have to adjust ourselves accordingly."
Commodore Mantiri, who is a member of the academy's class of 1970, was inaugurated as the governor of the Naval Academy by Navy Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Widodo A.S., replacing Rear Admiral Reno Maurits Silitonga.
Speaking during the inauguration on Thursday, Vice Admiral Widodo emphasized the improvement in the quality of students the academy is producing.
