Natural look is in again this year

JAKARTA (JP): Thinking of trying out a new hair style this year? Johnny Andrean, one of Indonesia's top hair and make up stylists, offers what he believes will be trendy this year in the world of beauty.

Dynamic and practical hair styling will be the norm this year, said the graduate of the London salons of Vidal Sassoon Academy, Alan International London, Jingles School, Tony and Guy Academy, Trevor Sorbie Academy and of Alexander de Paris.

Short hair will be emphasized by a free cut, accentuated with trap layers and wisps on the sides and back to highlight a woman's softness. For women who prefer curls, big waves or a combination of big and small waves will be also trendy in 1995.

For daily hair styling, Johnny suggested drying it naturally or using big hair rollers or a spiral or round curling brush. For special nights, he predicted that many Indonesian women would have their hair done in buns high on their heads while allowing the short hair to fall freely onto the cheek and neck. The tips of the hair can be rolled to make waves to add a feminine touch.

Hair coloring will also be fashionable this year.

"Most Indonesian women like blue black which looks ordinary indoors but, when light shines on it a fresh dark blue nuance is accented," said Johnny, adding that light brown, as a highlight, will also be popular. He has pioneered various hair fashion trends in Indonesia by introducing new hair curling systems called crystal, cable, color stick, zebra and flash perms.

Johnny predicts an emphasis on bright and gay colors in neat and sharp make-up.

"For eye shadows, bright colors like egg yolk, light green, aquamarine blue and orange are to be put on the eyelid, while darker colors like clay, dark green, blue black and black are to be put on the tip of the eyelids," he explained.

Johnny, owner of hair and beauty parlors all over the country, added that soft pink and light brown blush is in this year. Sunset red is best as a combination color.

Lipsticks can be in bright and gay colors. For lip liners, he suggested a darker color than the one on the lips. Glossy lipsticks should be used only at night.

Indonesian women often choose foundation or face powder that is lighter than their skin color to make them look whiter, said Johnny.

Eye brows are plucked neatly into an arc. Synthetic eye lashes are also popular, especially for those who have short and thin eye lashes. Eye liners will be blue black and black.

"Generally, the natural look which features a woman's softness is the trend this year," Johnny concluded.(als)
