Natuna Regency Extinguishes Three-Hectare Land Fire
The Natuna Regency Government in Riau Islands Province has extinguished a forest and land fire that destroyed approximately three hectares of land.
Syawal, Head of the Fire Rescue Service (Disdamkarmat) of Natuna Regency, confirmed from Natuna on Tuesday that the fire occurred on Monday evening (9 March) in Batu Kasah, South Bunguran District.
The department received a report from the public regarding the forest and land fire in the area.
“We received information or a fire report from the surrounding community at approximately 19.35 Western Indonesia Time,” he stated.
Upon receiving the report, firefighting personnel immediately prepared personnel and equipment to conduct extinguishing operations at the incident location.
Upon arrival at the site, personnel immediately commenced fire suppression efforts to prevent the fire from spreading to other forest and land areas. The extinguishing process lasted one hour and fifteen minutes with assistance from Natuna Police Resort personnel, and the fire was eventually brought under control at 21.25 Western Indonesia Time.
Syawal explained that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. However, the fire caused considerable vegetation damage in the affected area.
In addition to damaging the surrounding environment, the fire has the potential to cause environmental pollution. Smoke and combustion residue can affect air quality in the surrounding area and impact the existing ecosystem.
