Natuna island secure: Kumaat

PEKANBARU, Riau: Regional military chief Maj. Gen. Arie J. Kumaat assured investors yesterday that there were no security problems on the disputed Natuna Island.

"I guarantee that we can control security on Natuna. There is no security disturbance there," Kumaat said as quoted by Antara.

The small island in the South China Sea has come into the spotlight since Beijing reportedly included it in its latest map of China.

Kumaat said businessmen investing on the fast-developing island had nothing to worry about as far as security was concerned.

"Let me assert once again that Natuna Island rightfully belongs to Indonesia," he said, adding that the construction of a district military office on the island was nearing completion. (pan)
