NATO Giant Admits Iran Victory, Trump Thoroughly Humiliated
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has launched a scathing critique against the United States, stating that the country is being humiliated by Iranian leadership. Merz assessed that the administration of President Donald Trump has been outmanoeuvred at the negotiating table and continually outsmarted by Tehran in stalled diplomatic efforts.
Quoting The Guardian, Merz gave this assessment while speaking to students in Marsberg. He considered the American negotiating team powerless against the diplomatic strategies employed by the Iranian side.
“The Iranians are clearly very skilled in negotiating, or more precisely, very skilled in not negotiating, letting the Americans travel to Islamabad and then leave again without any results,” said Merz, as reported on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
Merz emphasised that this diplomatic failure represents a severe slap to the United States’ prestige in the eyes of the world. He also highlighted the role of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, which he views as the actor behind the difficulty in reaching an agreement.
“The entire nation is being humiliated by Iranian leadership, especially by this group called the Revolutionary Guard. And I hope this ends as soon as possible,” said Merz.
Merz’s statement follows Donald Trump’s decision two days ago to cancel the planned trip of the American negotiating team to Islamabad for indirect talks. However, two weeks earlier, US Vice President JD Vance had led a delegation to Pakistan’s capital, but the meeting ended without significant progress.
Trump himself had previously boasted to Fox News that his country was in a far superior position compared to Iran. He claimed that Tehran should be the one begging to negotiate.
“We hold all the cards. If Tehran wants to talk, they can come to us, or they can call us,” said Trump.
However, at the same time, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi demonstrated close relations with Russia during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Araghchi claimed that the US economic blockade does not shake his country’s position but rather demonstrates the resilience of the system in Iran.
“The world has now realised Iran’s true strength. It has become clear that the Islamic Republic of Iran is a stable, solid, and strong system,” said Araghchi.
In agreement, Putin expressed his full support for Iran to soon emerge from the crisis caused by the blockade in order to achieve stability in the region.
“Russia will do everything that serves Iran’s interests, the interests of everyone in this region, so that peace can be achieved as soon as possible,” said Putin.
While high-level diplomacy continues to reach a deadlock, the situation on the ground is heating up. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has signalled that military action remains a primary option to curb the power of groups supported by Iran.
“There are still two main threats from Hezbollah: 122mm rockets and drones. This demands a combination of operational and technological activities,” concluded Netanyahu.
