NATO backs deployment of 5,000 US troops to Poland
Moscow (ANTARA) - NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Friday (22/5) welcomed the announcement by United States President Donald Trump regarding the deployment of an additional 5,000 US troops to Poland. On Thursday, Trump said the US government would send an additional 5,000 military personnel to Poland. “Of course, I am very pleased with yesterday’s announcement,” Rutte told reporters ahead of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Sweden. He added that all technical details of the troop deployment are being handled by the military. Meanwhile, Polish President Karol Nawrocki thanked Trump for his decision to send an additional 5,000 soldiers to the country. “I would like to thank US President Donald J. Trump for his friendship with Poland and for the decisions whose tangible impact we are now clearly feeling,” Nawrocki said on X platform, Thursday. Earlier, the Defense News portal reported that the US Army cancelled the deployment of a unit of more than 4,000 personnel along with its equipment to Poland.
