NATO Affirms Alliance Status and Commitment to NPT

As long as nuclear weapons exist, NATO will remain a nuclear alliance. Moscow (ANTARA) - The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) stated on Tuesday that it will continue to be a nuclear alliance and remain committed to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). “As long as nuclear weapons exist, NATO will remain a nuclear alliance. The fundamental purpose of NATO’s nuclear capabilities is to preserve peace, prevent coercion, and deter aggression. The alliance always complies with all its obligations under the NPT and continues to do so,” the statement read. NATO also reaffirmed its full dedication to nuclear arms control, prioritising greater transparency and risk reduction. “The alliance is determined to contribute to the preservation, comprehensive development, and full implementation of the NPT. The alliance remains firmly committed to arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation efforts, with a focus on enhancing transparency, reducing risks, and improving security,” the NATO statement continued. In recent years, Russia has highlighted NATO’s unprecedented activities and the addition of troops near its western borders.
