Nationalism and working ethos
Nationalism and working ethos
From Media Indonesia
A nation will be great only if it maintains a high level of
nationalism and working ethos. If nationalism and working ethics
are wearing thin, you can bet this nation is doomed to
disintegration.
Indonesians are well aware of the significance of maintaining
a high level of nationalism and working ethos. But why is this
nation embroiled in increasingly complicated problems?
Some consider themselves better, smarter, more correct and
stronger than others. Many more, however, can only engage in deep
contemplation and mourn over their dark future.
It is sometimes the case that democracy and human rights are
used as the most effective excuse to avoid dealing with the
problems that this nation is actually encountering so that even
the most sophisticated weapon will be meaningless.
A nation depends heavily on the behavior of its leaders. If
the leaders act in confusion, the people will be thrown into
greater confusion. If the leaders are like prime minister Gajah
Mada of the ancient Majapahit kingdom, famous for his well-known
Amukti Palapa Vow, in which he vowed to refrain from being well-
off until he could unite Nusantara -- the present-day Indonesia
-- and bring prosperity to the people, the people will enjoy
stability, be law-abiding citizens and secure a bright future.
As Indonesia is now in dire crisis, it needs leaders with a
spirit like Gajah Mada so that they can protect the entire nation
and prioritize the people's interests over their own.
God is omniscient, all-wise and all-fair. Let us pray to Him
for His guidance.
