National Transportation Day: Free Rides on MRT, Transjakarta, and LRT Jakarta Tomorrow!

JAKARTA — The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will offer free public transportation services, including MRT, Transjakarta, and LRT Jakarta, on Friday (24/4/2026). This policy is implemented to mark National Transportation Day while promoting the shift towards public transport among the public. DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the measure is an effort by the government to encourage residents to become more accustomed to using public transport in their daily activities. “Happy National Transportation Day on 24 April. To welcome National Transportation Day, the DKI Jakarta Government will provide facilities and conveniences, or free rides,” said Pramono in a video uploaded to his personal Instagram account @pramonoanungw, quoted on Thursday (23/4/2026). The DKI Provincial Government hopes that through this policy, the public can directly experience the comfort and ease of public transportation services, leading them to prefer mass transportation options in the future. Additionally, the use of public transport is seen as a way to help reduce traffic congestion and curb air pollution levels in Jakarta. “This is why we are providing it, because the Jakarta government wants the public to become more accustomed to using the public transportation facilities owned by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government,” said Pramono.
