National Traffic Police Chief: Our Primary Focus is Ensuring Mudik Travellers Arrive Home Safely
The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas) General Agus Suryonugroho has emphasised that the safety of mudik travellers is the primary priority in the implementation of the 2026 Ketupat Operation. This commitment aligns with the 2026 mudik tagline: “Safe Mudik, Happy Family”.
He made this statement whilst monitoring the flow of mudik travellers from the Command Centre Post at KM 29 Cikampek Toll Road, West Java, on Sunday (15 March 2026).
“Our main focus in the 2026 Ketupat Operation is to ensure that every mudik traveller arrives home safely. For us, one life is invaluable. We are not merely managing numbers, but preserving the narrative of longing for millions of families so that it ends with a smile,” said General Agus.
The Traffic Police Chief noted that integrated security efforts undertaken together with all stakeholders have demonstrated positive results. Based on data, the fatality rate during this year’s mudik period has been reduced by 45 percent compared to the previous period.
From monitoring of the traffic counting system, vehicles leaving Jakarta towards various regions have currently only reached approximately 25 percent. This means that approximately 75 percent, or roughly 3.2 million mudik travellers, are estimated to travel in the coming days.
“We remain fully vigilant to guide this large wave of population movement to ensure it remains safe and smooth,” he said.
In terms of security and public order, reports of notable criminal incidents have been nil, whilst conditions at various major transport hubs such as Surabaya Gubeng Station and Purabaya Terminal have been monitored as safe and controlled.
The Traffic Police Chief also assessed that the policy restricting vehicles with three or more axles during the mudik period has proven effective in providing space for private vehicles and passenger transport, enabling traffic flow to remain smooth.
Additionally, the National Police Traffic Corps has prepared various anticipatory measures through traffic management engineering based on traffic counting data monitored in real-time.
“Once again, we are here to serve the public. Together, let us realise ‘Safe Mudik, Happy Family’. Safe journey, safe return,” he concluded.
