National Traffic Police Chief Orders Crackdown on Lorries Across All Toll Roads
Jakarta — In coordination and collaboration with Jasa Marga officers in the field, traffic police units moved simultaneously to conduct a large-scale crackdown on goods transport vehicles across several toll road sections on Sunday (15/2) evening. The operation was a direct instruction from the National Traffic Police Corps Chief (Kakorlantas) Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho to reduce accident and congestion figures.
From video footage received by detikcom, traffic police personnel swept vital sections including the Jakarta-Cikampek Toll Road, Cipularang Toll Road, and Merak Toll Road. The primary focus of officers that evening was to deal with lorries parked or stopped on hard shoulders, as well as vehicles violating load and dimension regulations (Over Dimension Overload).
"The crackdown across all toll roads is a direct order from me. It is all for the sake of traffic order and safety," Inspector General Agus stated on Monday (16/2).
**Hard Shoulders Are Not Parking Areas**
In the enforcement footage shared, traffic police could be seen approaching large lorries stopped on the hard shoulder. Drivers found to have stopped for non-emergency reasons were immediately instructed to continue their journey and were educated about the dangers of stopping in such areas.
Toll road hard shoulders are designated solely for vehicles experiencing technical breakdowns or emergency conditions. Indiscriminate parking in these locations frequently triggers fatal rear-end collisions, particularly at night when visibility is limited.
Beyond the hard shoulder issue, traffic police also tightened supervision of Over Dimension Overload lorries. This measure is in line with demands from various parties, including House of Representatives Commission III, which has highlighted the prevalence of lorries entering the right-hand lane (fast lane), causing severe congestion during peak hours.
The National Traffic Police Corps Chief confirmed that this operation would be carried out consistently and on an ongoing basis, particularly ahead of increased public mobility in the lead-up to Ramadan. The public has been urged to continue observing traffic signs for the sake of collective safety.
