The Head of the National Traffic Police of the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, attended the operational inauguration of the Safety Driving Center (SDC) under the Traffic Directorate of the South Kalimantan Regional Police. Inspector General Agus assessed the presence of this SDC as a strategic step in enhancing traffic safety and reducing accident rates.

“Traffic accidents remain quite high. Therefore, the presence of this SDC is very important for improving drivers’ skills and competence,” stated Inspector General Agus after the inauguration of the SDC under the Traffic Directorate of the South Kalimantan Regional Police in Banjarmasin on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

According to him, the main factor causing accidents stems from human aspects, particularly drivers’ abilities. Therefore, the SDC serves as a training centre that provides learning both in theory and practice, supported by professional instructors.

“It is hoped that later the people of Banjarmasin and Kalimantan in general can train here. Both in terms of theory and practice. Because the instructors who are already trained are at the South Kalimantan Regional Police, especially at this SDC,” he explained.

In addition to serving as a means to improve safety, the SDC under the Traffic Directorate of the South Kalimantan Regional Police is also projected to become a centre for developing professional driver manpower. There is even potential for cooperation with foreign companies that require driver personnel from Indonesia.

On the other hand, the SDC under the Traffic Directorate of the South Kalimantan Regional Police is considered to have approached ideal standards, both in terms of facilities and instructor quality. The National Traffic Police also commits to providing continuous support to perfect those facilities.

“Later, we will conduct an assessment, because indeed several large companies in Japan will recruit 30,000 driver personnel from Indonesia. Later, perhaps in South Kalimantan, we will allocate a portion to be trained here, including some places that we might recommend. This is very important, so that our workforce can be trained,” he concluded.

The Head of the National Traffic Police also had the opportunity to present pins and safety riding and driving certificates from the Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC) Singapore to the instructors of the SDC under the Traffic Directorate of the South Kalimantan Regional Police.

Accompanying attendees included the Governor of South Kalimantan, Muhidin, the Chief of the South Kalimantan Regional Police, Inspector General Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan, the Deputy Chief of Staff of South Kalimantan of the National Traffic Police, Brigadier General Prianto, the Deputy Chief of the South Kalimantan Regional Police, Brigadier General Golkar Pangarso, the Head of Traffic of the South Kalimantan Regional Police, Commissioner Fahri Siregar, as well as other stakeholders.
