National spikers win tryout games
JAKARTA (JP): National spikers being groomed for the 18th Southeast Asian Games continued their winning streak in their final warm-up matches in Gresik, East Java on Tuesday.
The national men's team whipped local club Petroges Putra in straight sets 15-3, 15-2, 15-12, while the women's team dropped a set before beating Petrogres Putri 15-10, 15-12, 12-15, 15-11 in a hard-fought match.
"I know Thailand is very ambitious to get a gold medal but I am optimistic the gold medal is ours," women's team coach Putut Marhaento told Antara.
In the previous tryout on Monday, the men's team swept another private club, Sparta. But the women's team fell 0-3 to Sparta's junior men's team. (arf)
