National Scout Council Ready to Support Food Self-Sufficiency Programme

The National Council (Kwarnas) of the Indonesian Scout Movement has confirmed its readiness to support and focus its activities on ensuring the success of the food self-sufficiency programme launched by the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Secretary General of the National Scout Council, Bachtiar Utomo, stated that strengthening this role would harness the potential of more than 450,000 scout groups (Gudep) spread across Indonesia. “If all scout groups have undergone training in agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, waste processing, and plantations, I am confident that the strength within the Scout Movement can support, in particular, the government’s programme to achieve food self-sufficiency,” he said, representing National Scout Council Chairman Budi Waseso. Participants of the 12th National Jamboree in 2026, which will coincide with the 65th Scout Day commemoration, will be equipped with various trainings, ranging from integrated farming, animal husbandry, fisheries, and plantations, to waste processing during the event. “Here, we train them in this place, they are equipped with practical skills in agriculture, fisheries, and animal husbandry. So that when they return to their respective regions, they will practise the skills and knowledge gained here,” he said. In addition to focusing on food security, Bachtiar revealed that the 12th National Jamboree also emphasises the preservation of Nusantara culture through daily regional arts performances to foster a sense of togetherness, mutual cooperation, and strengthen the values of Indonesian national unity. “We package these arts performances daily, with each region showcasing its own culture. This will build the resilience and strength of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” he remarked. On the occasion, Bachtiar also expressed appreciation to President Prabowo Subianto for the policy that positions scouting no longer as merely an extracurricular activity, but as a structured activity within the national education system. To follow up on this policy, the National Council, under the guidance of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will build collaboration and synergy with relevant stakeholders to make the Scout Movement the front line in youth character building towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.
