National runners dominate 10K

JAKARTA (JP): National marathon runners dominated the Kasogi 10-
kilometer race in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday.

Asian Championships silver medalist Tri Asih Handayani from
Salatiga, Central Java, finished first in 35 minutes and 13
seconds to beat teammate Ruwiyati's one-year-old record by 0.99
second.

Defending champion Ruwiyati, also from Salatiga, managed to
improve her record when she ran 35:38, but she had to settle for
runner-up.

Both runners shared the Rp 2 million (US$870) cash bonuses for
their record-breaking times, with Handayani earning 60 percent of
the sum.

Another Central Javanese runner, Rumini Sudragni, the golden girl
at the last Southeast Asian Games, finished third with 36:19.

Antara also reported that the country's former marathon king
Eduardus Nabunome retained his title with a time of 30:43.16.
