National runners dominate 10K
JAKARTA (JP): National marathon runners dominated the Kasogi 10- kilometer race in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday.
Asian Championships silver medalist Tri Asih Handayani from Salatiga, Central Java, finished first in 35 minutes and 13 seconds to beat teammate Ruwiyati's one-year-old record by 0.99 second.
Defending champion Ruwiyati, also from Salatiga, managed to improve her record when she ran 35:38, but she had to settle for runner-up.
Both runners shared the Rp 2 million (US$870) cash bonuses for their record-breaking times, with Handayani earning 60 percent of the sum.
Another Central Javanese runner, Rumini Sudragni, the golden girl at the last Southeast Asian Games, finished third with 36:19.
Antara also reported that the country's former marathon king Eduardus Nabunome retained his title with a time of 30:43.16. (yan)
