National road connecting Tulungagung and Trenggalek closed completely
The national road connecting Tulungaglagung and Trenggalek regencies, East Java, has officially been closed starting this Tuesday to support the repair project of the Gondang Bridge in Bendungan Village, Gondang District.
The Head of Traffic Unit of Tulungagung Police, AKP Taufik Nabila, stated that the closure is in effect from 14:30 WIB until 11 December 2026, spanning approximately the next six months. According to him, the repairs are being carried out by the National Road Implementation Centre (BBPJN) of the Ministry of Public Works following damage to the bridge’s foundation structure, which serves as a primary artery connecting the two regencies.
During the closure, two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles will be diverted through three alternative routes: the Gondang-Kauman route, the Mojoarum-Pampang route, and the Malasan-Gempolan route. Meanwhile, freight vehicles and heavy tonnage vehicles are required to pass through the Tamanan Four-Way Intersection towards Bandung District, before returning to the national road heading towards Trenggalek.
“Six-wheeled vehicles are not permitted to use the alternative routes prepared for light vehicles and will face enforcement if they violate the regulations,” said Taufik.
To support the traffic engineering measures, the Tulungagung Police, together with the Department of Transportation, have deployed approximately 20 joint personnel at several strategic points. Officers are stationed at the Tamanan Four-Way Intersection, the Kauman Four-Way Intersection, and in front of the Gondang Police Sub-district to direct road users towards the prepared diversion routes.
The police anticipate potential traffic congestion during the initial period of the closure as motorists adapt to the changes in travel routes. However, conditions are expected to gradually normalise once the public becomes accustomed to the traffic engineering patterns implemented during the project.
