National rider dies tragically

JAKARTA (JP): Andy Junaidi, a national rider being groomed for the upcoming 18th Southeast Asian Games, died on Sunday after falling at a show jumping practice session at the Artayasa track in Cinere, South Jakarta.

An eyewitness, Niske, told Antara that the 24-year-old athlete went down along with his horse. "To make matters worse, the horse collapsed on him, with the saddle pressing his chest," he said.

Andy trained with the Dwimaturangga club and was practicing for the fourth ASEAN Show Jumping championship, which was held at the same location.

Andy, who died at Cinere hospital, was expected to give Indonesia a gold medal in the SEA Games. (amd)
