National Police's Criminal Investigation Unit Assists in Drug Case Involving Police Officer
The head of the National Police’s Narcotics Directorate, Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, stated that the case involving YBA was initially handled by the East Kalimantan Police. However, investigators from Bareskrim are providing assistance for a more intensive investigation into the matter.
“The East Kalimantan Police’s Narcotics Directorate is handling the case, and the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit will conduct intensive monitoring,” said Brigadier General Eko Hadi in a statement on Saturday (16/5/2026).
Brigadier General Eko Hadi explained that their role is to support the handling of the case to facilitate the development of the investigation into the network.
“The National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit will provide support in handling the case to facilitate the development of the investigation,” he added.
AKP YBA was arrested in early May 2026 on suspicion of involvement in a drug case. He is currently undergoing intensive questioning at the East Kalimantan Police.
The arrest of YBA adds to the growing list of police officers involved in drug-related offenses. Previously, the former Chief of the Bima Police, Didik Putra Kuncoro, and the head of the Narcotics Unit of the Bima Police, Malaungi, were arrested on suspicion of money laundering in a drug case involving drug kingpin Erwin Iskandar, also known as Koh Erwin.
In addition, the head of the Narcotics Unit of the Kutai Barat Police, AKP Deky Jonathan Sasiang, was also arrested for his involvement with a drug trafficking network led by Ishak. The investigation into both of the above cases has been taken over by the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit.
“Investigators from the National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit have obtained new information regarding the involvement of AKP Deky Jonathan Sasiang in the operational business of drug trafficking conducted by the drug syndicate led by Ishak and others,” said Eko in a statement on Tuesday (12/5).
The drug case involving the Ishak syndicate was initially uncovered by the Melak Police on February 11, 2026.
