National Police Traffic Chief: Media Aids Safe Travel for Mudik Journeys
Jakarta – Indonesia’s National Police Traffic Corps Chief (Kakorlantas) Irjen Agus Suryonugroho attended the deployment ceremony of tvOne’s mudik team at the tvOne office in Pulogadung, Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
In his remarks, Agus expressed gratitude for the media team’s readiness as a partner to the National Police in supporting the dissemination of information regarding traffic flow and traffic management schemes being implemented.
Every year, millions of Indonesians travel from one location to another, leaving their cities to return to their hometowns. Therefore, the message in the song “Ayo Mudik Ojo Kesusu” (Go Home But Don’t Hurry) carries deep meaning during this year’s mudik holiday season.
“The key to the success of Operation Ketupat is synergy and collaboration, but there is one partner whose role is equally important: the media. The media not only reports on mudik journeys but helps protect the safety of people’s travel,” said Agus.
Through rapid and accurate information, the public can learn about road conditions, congestion points, rest areas, and alternative routes.
“We work not on predictions, but on technology. So we calculate traffic counting and ratios. If there is high traffic flow, we will implement security measures such as contraflow and one-way systems,” he said.
“For this reason, I invite my media colleagues to become part of the national safety movement. Convey a simple message to the public: mudik is about longing. But do not rush,” he added.
Agus stated that mudik is not merely an annual tradition but an opportunity to return and satisfy longing for one’s hometown. Therefore, the state is present to guarantee safety for travellers during their journeys home and back.
“Going home and returning are journeys filled with longing – longing for one’s hometown and longing for family,” he said.
“It is not only the presence of the state in the field, but ensuring that the state and police stakeholders convince the public that those departing for mudik must travel safely, travel comfortably, reach their destination safely, and meet their families happily,” he concluded.
Also attending were Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), Jasa Raharja Relations and Institutional Director Dewi Aryani Suzana, and tvOne Editor-in-Chief Lalu Mata Satriawangsa.
