Palembang (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police Research and Development Centre (Puslitbang Polri), in collaboration with the South Sumatra Regional Police (Polda Sumsel), is conducting research on the implementation of traffic technology to evaluate the effectiveness of modern traffic monitoring, such as Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE), while simultaneously mapping public perception.

The research activity was opened by the Deputy Director of Traffic for South Sumatra Regional Police, AKBP Mayestika Hidayat, alongside the Head of the National Police Research Team, Kombes Pol Saefudin Mohammad, in Palembang on Monday.

Following the event, the Head of the National Police Research Team, Kombes Pol Saefudin Mohammad, emphasised the importance of precise field data in formulating traffic management strategies that are adaptive to technological developments and community needs.

“We are combining a technological approach, literacy regarding traffic regulations, and community collaboration to ensure the National Police’s traffic functions remain adaptive to the needs of protecting road user safety,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations for the South Sumatra Regional Police, Kombes Pol Nandang Mu’min Wijaya, stated that the South Sumatra Regional Police is prepared to use the research results to strengthen police services to the community.

According to him, strengthening road safety, order, and smoothness of traffic (Kamseltibcarlantas) is closely linked to public safety, the smooth flow of economic activities, and the quality of public services.

The research is being conducted based on factual data to map public perception, evaluate the integration of traffic monitoring technology such as ETLE, and analyse the effectiveness of traffic order education.

The study also covers coordination between stakeholders in supporting road user safety and the smooth mobility of the public.

The National Police Research Team is using a mixed-method approach, involving quantitative surveys and in-depth interviews. The research will subsequently be continued at the regional unit levels within the South Sumatra Regional Police jurisdiction to obtain a more comprehensive overview of the implementation of traffic safety and order in the field.

It is hoped that the study will produce data and recommendations that can serve as material for evaluation in improving the quality of police services in the field of traffic. The utilisation of technology, the strengthening of education, and community involvement are vital components in building a culture of traffic order while supporting the safety of road users.
