The National Police headquarters (Mabes Polri) and Metro Jaya Regional Police have prioritised the investigation into the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of KontraS, carried out by an unidentified person (OTK). The police continue to pursue the perpetrator of the acid attack.

“This case is a priority and focus for Mabes Polri and Polda Metro Jaya,” said Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Head Commissioner Budi Hermanto to journalists on Saturday (14 March 2026).

Hermanto said police were also continuing analysis of CCTV footage from the incident location. The analysis is part of the investigation using scientific investigation methods to identify the perpetrator.

“The investigation by Central Jakarta Police and Metro Jaya Criminal Investigation Department is currently conducting scientific investigation to identify the perpetrator,” he said.

KontraS Activist Attacked with Acid

In circulating CCTV footage, two men on a motorcycle initially appear to pass through the location. They turn their motorcycle around to pass the victim.

The victim, who was riding a motorcycle at the time, was sprayed with acid by the perpetrator. The victim immediately felt intense heat and dropped his motorcycle on the roadside, screaming hysterically.

“Aah… aah… aah… hot… hot… hot. Acid… acid. Ya Allah help me, acid… acid… acid,” screamed the victim, as seen in CCTV footage on Friday (13 March 2026).

The victim immediately removed his clothing. The victim’s shirt was torn and his body was blistered from the acid spray.

The victim’s screams immediately attracted residents’ attention. Residents came to assist the victim.
