Jakarta — The National Police’s Head of Public Relations, Deputy Commissioner General Johnny Eddizon Isir, has emphasised that police will conduct an impartial investigation into the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.

Isir stressed that this commitment reflects the special attention given by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to the case.

“All National Police personnel, including investigators from Jakarta Central District Police, Metro Jaya Regional Police, and those providing backup from National Police Headquarters, will work seriously and diligently to fully illuminate the case, uncover the facts, and apprehend the perpetrator, whoever they may be,” Isir said in a statement on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

Isir stated that the investigation would be conducted scientifically, professionally and transparently in accordance with established procedures.

Currently, police are analysing CCTV footage capturing the moment of the attack to identify the perpetrator. Teams are also continuing to examine witnesses at the scene.

“We are collecting various digital evidence, including CCTV recordings, which are currently undergoing further analysis. We hope to identify the perpetrator soon. We ask for your support and prayers,” he said.

The attack occurred after Andrie Yunus completed a podcast recording at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) in Central Jakarta. According to KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya, the assault happened around 23:00 Western Indonesian Time following Andrie’s completion of a podcast titled “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review in Indonesia”.

“KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid thrown by an unidentified person, resulting in serious injuries across his body, particularly on both hands, face, chest, and eyes,” Dimas said.

The victim was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment. Medical examination confirmed that Andrie sustained burns covering approximately 24 per cent of his body.
