The National Police Forensic Laboratory (Puslabfor) team is preparing to conduct a crime scene investigation (TKP) regarding the fire that struck a densely populated residential area in Kemayost, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 3 June 2026. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Pol Reynold EP Hutagalung, stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that coordination with Puslabfor has been established, with the team scheduled to arrive at the location tomorrow.

According to the Police Chief, the Puslabfor team will examine the scene to determine the exact cause of the fire, which razed hundreds of homes in the Kebon Kosong Village, Kemayoran District. Consequently, officers have cordoned off the area with police lines at the suspected point of origin for the fire, which broke out on Monday night (1/6).

“We have installed police lines at the scene, which is suspected to be the source of the fire, based on coordination with the Fire Department,” said Reynold.

He noted that the witnesses currently being interviewed are not residents affected by the fire, as many victims remain in shock following the disaster that destroyed more than 300 semi-permanent houses in the area. Preliminary witness statements suggest the fire may have been caused by a stove, though this remains under investigation. “We are still seeking statements from external witnesses, as several potential witnesses from the local community are still too traumatised to provide testimony,” Reynold added.
