The Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) has intervened to investigate the involvement of former Narcotics Investigation Chief of West Kutai Police Resort, AKP Deky Jonathan Sasiang, with drug lord Ishak. Director of Narcotics Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Brigjen Eko Hadi Santoso, stated that this action follows the discovery of new facts regarding Deky’s role in the narcotics network in West Kutai. “Investigators from the Narcotics Crimes Directorate of Bareskrim Polri have obtained new facts related to the involvement of AKP Deky Jonathan Sasiang,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday (12/5). Eko explained that based on the findings, Deky is alleged to be involved in the operational business of illicit narcotics conducted by Ishak’s syndicate. Therefore, he said, the handling of the case has been taken over by Bareskrim Polri. Nevertheless, Eko has not disclosed further details about Deky’s involvement in the network. Based on gathered information, Deky is currently undergoing special placement (Patsus) and is being examined by the Propam of East Kalimantan Regional Police (Polda Kaltim). “The handling of the Case of the Ishak et al Drug Lord Syndicate (West Kutai Drug Syndicate) is now taken over by the Narcotics Crimes Directorate of Bareskrim Polri,” he added.
