National Police Criminal Investigation Unit Arrests Armed Robbers Who Stole Rp 800 Billion in Lampung
The Mobile Brigade Unit (Satresmob) of the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit has arrested a gang of armed robbers who carried out their operation in Tulang Bawang Barat, Lampung. Five suspects — identified as AY, T, J, Y and D — were detained in the operation.
“Satresmob Bareskrim Polri, together with the Lampung Regional Police Mobile Brigade and Tulang Bawang Barat District Police, were able to crack this case swiftly and comprehensively,” said Unit III Chief of Satresmob Bareskrim Polri, Senior Commissioner Reinhard H. Nainggolan, in a statement on Saturday (21/2/2026).
The robbery took place on Monday (19/1) at approximately 09:00 Western Indonesian Time. At that time, two victims — a truck driver and a staff member of a food distribution shop — were on their way to deposit Rp 800 million at a bank using a truck.
On the road to the bank, a motorcycle carrying suspects T and J suddenly pulled alongside the victims’ truck. They immediately fired a weapon at the windscreen, shattering it.
“At approximately 09:00 WIB, three gunshots were heard on Jalan Sudirman, Tiyuh Daya Asri,” said Reinhard.
The gunfire brought the truck to a halt and caused panic among nearby residents. At that moment, the two suspects immediately seized the hundreds of millions in cash and fled the scene.
“The two perpetrators then stole the Rp 800 million that was to be deposited at Bank Mandiri,” he continued.
Based on this information, a joint team immediately proceeded to the location to conduct an investigation. Within a day of the robbery, police obtained leads and discovered the Yamaha Vixion motorcycle used by the suspects to carry out the crime.
“The motorcycle was found discarded beneath the Lampung–Palembang toll road. The team also recovered other evidence including CCTV footage and other items that helped shed light on this violent robbery,” Reinhard explained.
Based on witness statements and the evidence recovered, police ultimately succeeded in arresting the five-member robbery gang, each with distinct roles. Their roles were as follows:
- AY served as the mastermind, responsible for preparing a Grand Max vehicle to transport the Yamaha Vixion motorcycle used in the robbery;
- J served as the motorcycle rider during the operation;
- T served as the gunman;
- Y was tasked with surveillance using a Honda Revo motorcycle;
- D provided the motorcycle used by Y and also participated in the robbery.
Reinhard stated that all five suspects have been placed in detention for further legal proceedings.
