Jakarta — Indonesia’s National Police Commission (Kompolnas) has called on the National Police (Polri) to deliver their best performance in uncovering the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of External Affairs at the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

“Police must deliver their best work to uncover this case,” said Kompolnas member Mohammad Choirul Anam to Antara News Agency in Jakarta on Sunday.

According to Anam, this effort must be undertaken by Polri to ensure that such incidents do not occur again. Moreover, he said, the same incident could happen to anyone and represents a threat to Indonesian democracy.

“Once again, this case must be thoroughly exposed and it must be exposed who the perpetrators are, including those behind them, to ensure such incidents do not occur again,” he said.

Meanwhile, Anam stated that Kompolnas has visited Andrie Yunus at hospital and met with him and the human rights community.

“One of the most important things is that this incident does not become a source of fear, but rather becomes a spirit that continuously burns to improve our democratic conditions, our human rights conditions in this beloved Indonesian republic,” he said.

In a separate statement, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, at Gubeng Station in Surabaya, East Java, on Sunday, stated that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered Polri to thoroughly investigate the Andrie Yunus case.

Consequently, Polri is currently gathering various information and has even opened a complaint post for the public.

Previously, on 12 March 2026, Andrie Yunus was sprayed with acid whilst riding a motorcycle after recording a podcast at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office discussing militarism and the constitutional review of the National Armed Forces Law.

YLBHI described the attack on Andrie Yunus as an alleged premeditated murder.
