JAKARTA — The National Police Commission (Kompolnas) has demanded the best performance from the National Police (Polri) in investigating the case of an acid attack against activist Andrie Yunus from Kontras. Kompolnas Commissioner Mohammad Choirul Anam emphasised that Polri must utilise maximum quality and resources to reveal the perpetrator, mastermind, and motive behind the attack.

“The police must deliver their best work to solve this case. The case must be fully exposed, regardless of who the perpetrator is, including who is behind them, and the motive for this act,” said Anam on Sunday (15 March 2026).

According to Anam, an acid attack is a form of brutal and deeply inhumane crime. It leaves physical scars and even permanent disability for the victim.

The attack on Andrie Yunus, according to Anam, undermines Indonesia’s democratic agreement that prioritises the rule of law within the framework of human rights. Therefore, said Anam, the attack represents a threat to all citizens.

“The same incident could happen to anyone. Because this is a very serious threat to how we practice democracy, and is a violation of the right to feel safe for all Indonesian citizens,” said Anam.

The case follows a presidential directive to investigate the matter thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.
